  Andrew & Ethan Elkins

   elkins4@tds.net

Andrew started camping and canoeing with his family when he was three years old. A lifelong passion for wilderness canoeing started on the Wisconsin River and the lakes of the Boundary Waters in Minnesota and Killarney Provincial Park in Canada (where he learned how to tie his shoes). Andrew has continued this tradition with his wife and children, starting them out as early as 7 weeks old. Andrew was also a Scout Master for the New Glarus/Monticello Boy Scout Troop #106 and has guided the troop in the BWCA on several occasions. In the last few years, he was bitten by the SUP bug after discovering that it was great balance, concentration and relaxation therapy for his disability from a car accident in 2003. Andrew and his son Ethan were the first to cross the Boundary Waters via the Border Route on SUP's and were also able to raise $2000 to benefit a traumatic brain injury study after completing their journey. Andrew is currently researching how to make SUPs better for tripping. In 2016 he became a Pro for Kialoa, which involves testing and evaluating their products.

 SUP Expedition and Adventure

Killarney - Clarion Hotel Sat 2:30pm-3:15pm

Whether overnight camping trips or a 2-week expeditions, tripping on stand up paddleboards is exploding. SUP manufacturers see this demand and are creating new lines of rugged SUPs in both hard boards and inflatables. Learn what boards are best suited for you, how to rig your board, pack for your trip and the advantages/challenges paddleboards have over canoes/kayaks. In August 2016, Andrew and his son, Ethan, paddled 200 miles across the Boundary Waters on paddleboards. Come hear their story and get some tips.
