In 1982 Dave served as a Park Naturalist for the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. Later that year he started a long career as an educator and coach in Missouri for thirty-one years. Upon retirement from the classroom he once again picked up the NPS flathat for the ONSR before moving to Florida as an Education Ranger in the Swamp at Big Cypress National Preserve and as a Visitor Services Assistant for the U.S. Forest Service in the Okanogan-Wenatchee Forest in Washington. Once again serving as a District Interpretive Ranger on the Current River his days are spent in Round Spring Cave, paddling the Current River, or sharing the magic of Ozark springs feeding this river system by supplying millions of gallons of cold water.

Marty is a retired park ranger from Missouri who has led organized trips throughout the Ozarks, Ontario and the American west. Since retirement Marty spends his time traveling, volunteering in our national public lands, and photographing the wonders of nature. He recently completed a 5 month 20,000 mile road trip through the American west, Alberta, British Columbia, the Yukon, and Alaska.

Ozark Paddling: The Ozark National Scenic Riverways

BWCA - main floor Sat 11:30am-12:15pm

BWCA - main floor Sun 12:30pm-1:15pm

With its scenic, free-flowing Current and Jacks Fork rivers, caverns, and high-volume springs, this area captured the attention of Congress in the 1960's. Each week the larger springs pour billions of gallons of clear, cold water into the Current and Jacks Fork rivers, the heart of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. This park exists to protect these largely spring-fed streams that run through some of the Ozarks' most beautiful scenery. Explore time honored traditions and new recreational opportunities for paddlers in the Ozarks.
