Dave Tobey is a District Interpretive Ranger at trhe Ozark National Scenic Riverways. In 1982 Dave served as a Park Naturalist for the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. Later that year he started a long career as an educator and coach in Missouri for thirty-one years. Upon retirement from the classroom he once again picked up the NPS flathat for the ONSR before moving to Florida as an Education Ranger in the Swamp at Big Cypress National Preserve and as a Visitor Services Assistant for the U.S. Forest Service in the Okanogan-Wenatchee Forest in Washington. Once again serving as a District Interpretive Ranger on the Current River his days are spent in Round Spring Cave, paddling the Current River, or sharing the magic of Ozark springs feeding this river system by supplying millions of gallons of cold water.

Paddling and Hiking Options in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways

Algonquin - main floor Fri 4:30pm-5:15pm

Algonquin - main floor Sat 11:30am-12:15pm

The Current and Jacks Fork Rivers were the first American rivers protected by an act of Congress in 1964. Paddlers have enjoyed the many karst features along the rivers including large springs, caves, and bluffs for decades. New hiking trails in the park are providing an opportunity for paddlers to visit areas that have been difficult to reach since the park was established 54 years ago. Paddlers will also learn about several new hike-float options available to visitors.
